Four recent BioKier patent applications were filed and will be published soon. The patents describe the recent clinical discovery that the pharmacological effects of colonic delivery of nutrients can differ depending on the profile of release of the nutrients in the colon. In clinical studies, BioKier has demonstrated that rapid release of nutrient in the colon, over a time-course of 2 hours, results in significant improvement of insulin sensitivity, fasting glucose, and triglycerides, while sustained release, over a time-course of ~10 hours, lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and liver enzymes in subjects with elevated levels. These patents when granted will extend IP coverage beyond 2040.
